Social Media Releases: Not Your Father’s PR
Format is critical to a good SMR. It all starts with a good headline and intro paragraph, of course: clear, concise and full of keywords (to make it SEO friendly). And another way they differ from the traditional news release? Bullet points. That’s right, SMRs emphasize just the facts of your story using a series of bullet points. A second section should offer a convenient list of bulleted quotes from pre-approved sources (execs, experts inside or outside your company). Let editors choose what they want to use – and make it easy for them.
The SMR movement is rapidly gaining traction in the PR world. The people at SocialMediaRelease.org are completely dedicated to exploring and promoting this concept further. There’s also an upcoming, free Webinar that focuses on “The Evolving Social Media Release” to be held March 4, 2008 at 2:00 pm ET. Free registration is available at PRWeb.
So, is the social media release here to stay or just another fad? I think it’s going to stick around and transform online publicity in new and exciting ways. After all, even the topic itself is already starting to spark more conversation, create more curiosity, and more fully tap the possibilities of the Web. And that’s exactly what SMRs are supposed to do.
