Basic Benefits of Dedicated Hosting for Internet Businesses
Category: Tips and Advice
Lately we’ve been exploring the benefits of shared hosting here at the Aplus.net blog. Now let’s take a look at some of the reasons why dedicated hosting may be the better choice for your Internet business.
Most online businesses start out by using shared hosting plans to host their websites. Shared hosting, or the renting and allotment of space on a company’s server, means you’re essentially “sharing” server space with other renters. It’s the most cost-effective way to get your business online.
But, since you don’t have complete control over the server that hosts your site, there are some disadvantages you may experience. You may encounter email delivery problems because of spam complaints against other sites on the same server. You may find that your site slows down occasionally when someone else does some heavy database work on your server. And your website could potentially suffer from a “denial of service” situation caused by one of your server co-renters hosting disreputable or even illegal content (such as hacking or piracy-related material).
It’s unlikely that you’ll ever have to deal with any of these problems. But, upgrading to a dedicated server means you don’t have to worry about them at all. You’ll spend a little more on hosting each month, but if you want to make sure your online business is ready for “prime time”, it’s an investment that can provide you a more strategic, long-term return.
In my next post I’ll go into more details about why an online business might be better off with a dedicated server for its hosting needs.
As always, let me know if you have any questions. And happy holidays!
