This week, the news of Aplus.Net’s acquisition of the New York-based web design firm WebImage has dominated news in the web hosting industry.

And for good reason — this is big news, not only for Aplus.Net and its hundreds of thousands of customers, but also for the web hosting industry in general. As you may have noticed, acquisitions in this industry are a big deal, because it’s a fairly recent development and because it has significant effects in a marketplace that’s so fragmented that literally thousands of companies are competing for customers.
